The story of how "OwieBowWowie" began comforting children...

Children believe in once upon a time because that is how happily ever after stories begin.

Once upon a time a woman named Gina Gippner-Woods was admitted into the hospital. There was no room for her in the adult ward, so she was placed in a room with a child. A little girl.

This young girl was recovering from brain surgery. She had no family, but her nurse would bring her small gifts everyday.

One morning she brought in a toy plush puppy. The little girl looked at the toy and then she threw it across the room. Gina picked up the toy and asked, "Honey, what's wrong? Why did you throw your puppy?"

“It’s not mine. It’s broken!” The young girl replied.

Sure enough, the puppy's ear was torn. Gina noticed some gauze lying on the table next to the bed. She immediately began bandaging the head of the broken puppy. Soon it matched the little girl's head bandage! Gina told her, "It's not broken. It's got an "owie" like you. It's your 'OwieBowWowie.'"

That little girl's pleasure in holding a 'fixed' puppy was the inspiration for Gina's storybooks and a complete line of plush toy animals... complete with their own bandages!

And if you're not sure if an OwieBowWowie is truly comforting...

Recently our founder, Gina, had a cancer scare, and had to have surgery to remove a large tumor. As she was waking up in the recovery room she felt something comforting beside her, and began to cry when she noticed that someone had placed an "OwieBowWowie" in her arms. She'll testify that even though she is not a child, the comfort of waking up with a friend made her smile.
